Plushenko retired from competition after winning his Olympic title in February 2006. He came back to win the silver at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. He has also a silver from 2002. With his Olympic gold medal in the team event at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, Plushenko tied Gilles Grafström's record of four Olympic figure skating medals. He was sent to the ice rink by his mother at age four. When Plushenko was 11 years old, his ice rink in Volgograd closed, and the boy moved alone to St. Petersburg to train there. His parents followed later. Plushenko is the first skater to perform a quadruple toeloop-triple toeloop-triple loop combination in competition (Cup of Russia 2002). Plushenko got married to Jana Rudkovskaia in September 2009. Their son Alexander was born January 6, 2013. Plushenko has also another son, Egor (born June 15, 2006) from his previous marriage. Plushenko withdrew from the 2013 European Championships after the Short Porgram citing injury and underwent back surgery in Feb 2013 to replace a disc.
