In 1993, Dmitrenko came out of nowhere to become European Champion in Helsinki. He even had to skate with
two left blades (given to him by fellow skater Viatcheslav Zagarodniuk), because his right blade had broken and he
had nothing to replace it. Dmitrenko won his second medal at Europeans - a bronze - seven years later in Vienna
(2000). He was forced to withdraw from the Europeans 2001 after the short program due to a foot injury.
Dmitrenko got married to Oksana Maslova in 2001.
