Steinel/Tsvetkov teamed up in November 1997. He moved from Moscow, Russia to Germany to start a new career
with her. Tsvetkov spoke no word of German when he arrived but now speaks it fluently and plans to apply for
German citizenship. Steinel started to skate because her mother wanted her to become a skater. She switched to
ice dancing when she suffered a concussion after a hard fall. Tsvektov took up skating as a three-year-old.
Coaches suggested him to switch to ice dancing when he couldn't land an Axel at age six.
