Carlow has also competed in pairs at the novice level. He was 2001 National Novice Champion with partner Wafa Asmar. He is coached by his mother, who competed in pairs at the World level. His second coach, Canadian Brian Orser, is the 1984 and 1988 Olympic silver medallist. Carlow missed the 2008 Four Continents Championships due to a groin injury.
