Liebers' brother Martin (three years older) is a figure skater as well and competed at the international level in singles and pairs. Their father Mario is a five-time National silver medallist, competing for East Germany at European and World Championships from 1976 to 1980. Liebers missed the first half of the 2011/12 season due to injury.
