Amodio was born in Brazil but was raised in France. He started skating at age four when long-time coach Bernard Glesser discovered him in a public skating session. Amodio had to stop skating for 18 months when he was 12 years old as he was diagnosed with Osgood-Schlatter disease (knee pain and edema). Amodio switched coaches in summer 2010 but Glesser is part of his coaching team again since fall 2011. The piece "Memories of Sobral" was especially composed for Amodio.
