Lee started skating when she was five and was also a gymnast from age 6 to 12. She competed at the National Championships and was named "Gymnast of the Year" in 2002. She officially retired from gymnastics in 2004 to pursue her figure skating career. Lee is a recipient of the ISU Junior Figure Skating Scholarship for the 2008/09 season.
