Takahashi/Tran teamed up in July 2007. She moved to Canada to train with him. They are the first pairs team in history from Japan to medal at the ISU World Championships (bronze in 2012). They are the second Japanese pair to win a medal at the ISU World Junior Championships (silver in 2010) since Yuko Kawaguchi/Alexander Markuntsov took silver at the 2001 Junior Worlds. Takahashi took up skating following her elder sister Misumi who competed on the Japanese Synchronized team until 2010. She lived and trained for five years in China as the family moved there for work. The couple also lists Julie Marcotte and Cynthia Lemaire as their coaches.
