Cain competed in pair skating at the international level from 2010 to 2012 and was ranked fourth at the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2011 with Joshua Reagan. When the couple split in 2012, she focused on single skating. Cain's cousin Sean Carlow competed in figure skating at the World level representing Australia. Cain is coached by her father Peter, who competed at the World and Olympic level in Pair Skating with his sister Elizabeth for their native Australia. They also won the bronze medal at the 1976 World Junior Championships.
