Hicks did gymnastics before starting skating at age 5. She is half Russian and speaks and reads Russian. She missed most of the 2011/12 season as she broke her leg in a fall during the JGP in Milan. Coaches Jenni Meno and Todd Sand are three-time World Pairs medalists (bronze in 1995 and 1996, silver in 1998).
