Efimova/Blommaert teamed up in 2020. She previously competed in singles representing Finland until 2014 before starting a pair skating career in Russia. When her partnership with Alexander Korovin ended, she relocated to Germany and started with Blommaert. Blommaert is originally from Belgium but moved to Germany to pursue a pair skating career. Efimova's mother Marina Shirshova is a figure skating coach in Finland.
