Kolyada is a silver medalist in the Team Event at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. He is the oldest of four children in his family. Kolyada is the first Russian skater to perform a quadruple Lutz in international competition (2017 Ondrej Nepela Trophy). He graduated from Lesgaft University for Sports and Health in St. Petersburg in 2018 with a master degree. He fractured his right ankle in August 2014 and sat out the 2014/15 season recovering from his injury. He had to withdraw from the 2014 National Championships during the Free Skating as a hook on his skating boot had come off.
