Tennell is a bronze medalist in the Team Event at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. She has two younger brothers, Austin and Shane, who are both hockey players. She switched coaches following the 2019/20 season. She sat out the entire 2021/22 sesaon recovering from injuries. She switched coaches and moved to France in 2022.
