Liu is the first female skater to have performed a triple Axel and a quadruple jump (Lutz) in competition in one program (ISU Junior Grand Prix Lake Placid 2019). She is the oldest of five children in her family. Her father Arthur is an immigrant from China and she speaks Mandarin. She has switched coaches in November 2021. Coach Viktor Pfeifer competed at the Olympic level representing Austria.
