Carrillo first trained in diving and gymnastics but fell in love with skating after watching his sister practicing. When he was 13 years old he had to leave his home and family and moved with his coach from Guadalajara to Leon as their ice rink closed. He is the first Mexican figure skater to land a quadruple jump in competition and he is also the first Mexican skater to qualify for the Olympic Games in 30 years. He looks up to seven-time European Champion Javier Fernandez (ESP). Carrillo was nominated for the ISU Skating Awards in 2023 in the category "Most Entertaining Program" for his Short Program of the 2021/22 season. He sat out the 2022/23 season recovering from ankle surgery and switched coaches, moving to Canada in 2023. | |||||||||||
